Temperatures in Michigan will get down into the low single digits overnight. Forecasts for temperatures as low as five degrees, could push lower depending on the wind, creating dangerous conditions for anyone who is left to brave the elements for an extended period of time. The cold weather will last most of the Day, and the high temperatures likely wont get back into the Mid Thirties range until the weekend. Severe cold weather, is going to put home heating systems to the test as severe cold weather will put an additional strain on all things mechanical over the next few days.
The largest area of concern for property owners is going to dealing with the potential of pipes freezing. Single digit temperatures are notorious for creating frozen pipe disasters, causing pipes to burst, explode and create water damage disasters in homes. Vacationers are often the most susceptible to this type of property disaster, as their homes can be left unattended for days at a time. Returning from a vacation to find ice coming out of your front door is certainly not an experience anyone would want to experience. This is why it is very important to have a buddy system in place when you are away for the winter, to ensure you have someone checking on your property status every 48 hours if you will be gone for extended periods of time and don’t wish to winterize your home.
